A summery about Dr. Samira Aghadoost
stablished a rehabilitation clinic in Tehran’s Jannat Abad area, which continues to operate to this day. The clinic offers occupational therapy, speech therapy, and neurofeedback services and is recognized as one of the most reputable scientific and therapeutic clinics in western Tehran. Our speech and language therapy department provides evaluation and treatment for clients with various speech and language disorders such as learning disorders, speech initiation delay, cleft lip and palate apraxia, cochlear implantation, production disorder, hearing loss, voice and larynx disorders, stuttering, and other speech disorders. Meanwhile, our occupational therapy department evaluates and treats children and adults with various movement disorders, including stroke, Alzheimer’s, dementia, neurological disorders, learning disorders, mental retardation, and more. As the scientific supervisor of the collection, I have also been actively engaged in educational and research activities.
Degrees
My academic journey in the field of Speech Therapy has been defined by notable achievements. In 2010, I successfully earned my Bachelor’s degree and achieved an impressive GPA of 91%. The following year in Master’s degree, I achieved a remarkable GPA of 94% and I was the best student between my classmates. In 2014, I started my Ph.D. degree in Speech Therapy (ST) at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), where I graduated with distinction and a GPA exceeding 97%, known as Iran’s top medical university, provided the backdrop for my academic journey, where my consistent recognition as a “brilliant talent” and top-performing student reinforced my dedication to the field. My Ph.D. thesis focused on conducting an original research study, “A randomized clinical trial comparing three voice therapy methods for muscle tension dysphonia” that has about 4 Q1 manuscripts in the best journals
Academic Aspect
to my role as Assistant Professor at TUMS, I maintain an active research program as the principal investigator on studies exploring novel voice therapy (VT) approaches and ST for cleft lip and palate (CLP) patients. I have secured over 20 national grants to support my research initiatives and have published more than 20 first-author papers in prestigious international journals such as the Journal of Voice, The Cleft Palate Craniofacial Journal, European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Logopedics Phoniatrics Vocology, and Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery, and more. Additionally, I play a role as the university’s supervising representative, ensuring the integrity of the defense process for several international PhD theses. Moreover, I regularly serve as a peer reviewer for top journals and have been invited to speak at over 30 national and international conferences, demonstrating my expertise in this field. Based on my expertise, I have been asked to review manuscripts for top journals and serve as a referee for international clinical conferences.
To share my knowledge, I have authored two textbooks on assessment and treatment of speech disorders in cleft lip and palate and translated 5 books in field of cleft lip and palate into Persian which three of them are written by globally renowned cleft palate expert Dr. Ann Kummer. In have also more than 30 professional development workshops and taken 50 national vocational courses to continuously train others in the field. My students have gone on to improve outcomes for countless patients.
Clinical aspect
Furthermore, to academic achievements, I have over 15 years of clinical experience in assessing and treating speech and communication impairments and also, in voice disorders. I am known for my compassionate and dedicated clinician, and people from all over the country seek my expertise. Additionally, I gained specialized clinical experience in voice therapy through an 8-year position as a supervisor of voice clinic at Amiralam Hospital’s renowned main Larynx Center in Iran.
Through my research, clinical practice, and teaching, I have become an established leader in speech-language pathology, as demonstrated by prestigious invitations I have received. I currently serve as a main team member on the Iranian cleft lip/palate initiative, helping shape nationwide strategies to optimize care and outcomes for individuals born with these craniofacial anomalies. I am also an active member of the Iranian Scientific Association of Speech Therapy, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), Pan American Vocology Association (PAVA), and American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association (ACPA), among other esteemed professional organizations.
